Cracow – a model for electric bus charging infrastructure
Cracow, one of Poland’s most prominent and historic cities, is systematically implementing zero-emission solutions in its public transport system. Thanks to a modern charging infrastructure provided by Ekoenergetyka, the city has significantly improved air quality and reduced noise levels. The investment in advanced technology supports the reliable operation of electric buses and strengthens Cracow’s position as a reference point for sustainable urban mobility in Europe.
Let's talk
Ekoenergetyka’s first charger
- still in daily operation
Our first project began in Cracow. On 15 January 2015, we commissioned our inaugural 120 kW charger at the MPK depot on Walerego Sławka Street – and it remains in active service to this day. Having supported over 6,000 charging cycles, this unit contributed meaningfully to the early development of e-mobility in Poland.
This installation marked more than just a company milestone – it demonstrated the practical viability of electric bus charging infrastructure, influencing further deployments across Europe.

Efficient charging for Cracow’s electric fleet
The transition to zero-emission transport requires a well-integrated and dependable charging network. Cracow has implemented a comprehensive system that supports daily operations of its electric bus fleet:
This infrastructure supports uninterrupted public transport services and meets the operational needs of a growing e-bus fleet.
Depot-ready charging solutions designed for flexibility
At the MPK depot, 50 mobile DC fast chargers – each delivering 50–60 kW – are in place. These compact units can be stacked vertically to optimise the use of space. Offering both CCS Combo 2 plug-in and pantograph interfaces, they provide compatibility with a wide range of electric buses. An intelligent fleet management system coordinates charging sessions, ensuring operational efficiency and availability of vehicles during peak hours.

These elements form one of the most advanced municipal charging networks in the region, contributing to Cracow’s leadership in clean public transport
Progress towards zero-emission transport
Cracow is among the cities systematically modernising their public transport with fully electric vehicles. The ongoing expansion of charging infrastructure supports the reduction of emissions and enhancement of air quality. Through these initiatives, Cracow is contributing to the wider European objective of sustainable urban mobility.
