Revolutionizing public transport in Munich
Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM), one of Germany’s leading public transport operators, is transforming urban mobility with a state-of-the-art electric bus depot. Designed to support over 200 electric buses, this cutting-edge facility – developed in collaboration with Ekoenergetyka – sets a new benchmark for efficiency, sustainability, and smart automation. With advanced charging technology, energy recovery systems, and intelligent space optimization, this project is tackling the biggest challenges in large-scale fleet electrification – all while reducing environmental impact.
Let's talk
Munich is leading the EV charge
Tackling key challenges: space, efficiency & noise
Space optimization:
The depot maximizes every square foot with overhead-mounted charging points, keeping the facility clean, organized, and ultra-efficient—critical in space-constrained urban areas.

Energy efficiency & waste heat recovery
The facility uses liquid-cooled charging stations and an advanced heat recovery system to repurpose waste heat for office heating, domestic hot water, and bus washing—lowering energy consumption and operational costs.

Noise reduction
Located in a busy city area, the depot features ultra-quiet liquid-cooled power modules, minimizing noise pollution and ensuring a seamless urban integration.

Automation & future scalability

The numbers behind the innovation
This scalable infrastructure is built for long-term growth, ensuring Munich’s transit system is ready for the future of electric mobility.
Sustainability at its core: waste heat recovery
Office & room heating: recovered heat keeps office spaces warm and energy-efficient. Domestic hot water: heat is repurposed for bus washing & other depot needs. Lower carbon footprint: reduces energy waste and operational costs, making the depot a green energy powerhouse.
Let's talkA bueprint for the future
Redundant power & cooling: dual-redundant components ensure continuous operation, automatically switching to backups if needed. Automatic power adjustment: In case of system fluctuations, the charging stations self-regulate to maintain performance and reliability. Munich’s next-gen e-bus depot is more than just an infrastructure upgrade—it’s a game-changer for sustainable urban mobility worldwide.
